Have you been downloading, re-uploading, or copy-pasting your Google Drive documents every time you wanted ChatGPT to summarize or analyze them? Well, you don't have to anymore! ChatGPT's recent web update officially allows you to open Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files side-by-side with your chat, edit the content directly, and save those changes to Drive in real-time. 😄
It's very simple to use. Just click the '+' button at the bottom left of the chat window, connect your Google Drive, and select the document you want to edit. The document will then open in a sidebar on the right. You can simply type requests like, "Polish the awkward sentences in this document" or "Add this data to the spreadsheet," and ChatGPT will modify your Google Doc content directly. I really love how it keeps my workflow smooth without having to switch tabs back and forth.
However, there are a few limitations you should keep in mind. Currently, this feature is only available on the web version for paid plans like ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Enterprise. Also, please note that it does not yet support switching between multiple connected Google accounts or editing files in Shared Drives. Since there is no change history tracking, I recommend making a backup copy before working on important documents. 😄
