Term Finance Hit by Governance Attack — $8.5 Million Stolen

The Ethereum-based lending protocol Term Finance has lost approximately $8.5 million in assets following an attack targeting its governance system. According to reports from The Block and Binance News, the attacker manipulated the protocol’s governance wrapper to withdraw assets, including ETH and DAI, from the treasury. The hacker's wallet currently holds approximately 2,843 ETH and 1.6 million DAI.

This incident is particularly shocking because it wasn't a simple smart contract coding error, but rather a clever exploitation of the governance authority that controls the protocol. Governance attacks strike a direct blow to the protocol's credibility, making them incredibly difficult to recover from.

With such sophisticated DeFi security breaches happening frequently lately, there is a clear trend of capital moving toward thoroughly audited, secure infrastructure or institutional-grade platforms. It serves as a reminder that while innovative experiments are great, security must ultimately be the foundation. haha
