The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has issued a strong warning regarding fraud schemes involving crypto ATMs. According to the recently released alert, the cumulative losses from these ATM scams have reached a staggering $388 million.

Scammers often impersonate government or law enforcement agencies, pressuring victims to pay taxes or fines via crypto ATMs. They exploit the fact that transactions through these machines are one-way and extremely difficult to trace. The CFTC advises caution, stating that "no legitimate public agency will ever demand funds to be sent via a crypto ATM."

It’s bittersweet to see institutional capital rapidly entering the regulated space while these offline scams targeting individuals remain so rampant. As the crypto ecosystem goes mainstream, clever tactics targeting those less familiar with the technology are on the rise. It would be wise to remind friends or elders who are new to crypto that any request to transfer money via offline machines is 100% a scam. 😄
