The Cardano Foundation has officially deployed the new token standard, CIP-0113, to the mainnet at Token2049 in Singapore. The core of this update is the ability to embed regulatory compliance logic directly into the tokens themselves. This allows issuers of stablecoins or real-world asset-backed tokens to implement features such as identity verification, AML (Anti-Money Laundering), and asset freezing directly at the protocol level, without the need for smart contracts. Thanks to Cardano's unique Extended UTXO model, it is said that these rules can be applied flexibly without a hard fork.
Until now, technical constraints and clunky user experiences have often been cited as barriers when institutional capital, which requires strict regulatory compliance, enters public blockchains. With the introduction of this standard, a path has been opened to meet the requirements of regulatory authorities while maintaining the efficiency of on-chain transactions. However, we will need to wait and see how the actual construction of use cases plays out to determine how attractive financial institutions and real-world asset projects will view the Cardano ecosystem as a platform.
