The Sui Foundation has invested $30 million (approx. 40 billion KRW) into DataNetwork, an AI training data provenance protocol, becoming its largest stakeholder. DataNetwork plans to shut down its existing standalone blockchain and migrate its data provenance registration system, 'Trace,' and its storage layer to the Sui mainnet and the decentralized storage network Walrus. Existing DATA tokens will also be converted 1:1 to Sui-based tokens.

It is interesting to see this pragmatic choice to leverage Sui's high throughput and Walrus's storage infrastructure rather than sticking to a standalone L1 layer. With the demand for AI data integrity and provenance verification rising sharply, it will be worth watching whether Sui can establish itself as a core infrastructure for the AI data supply chain, beyond its roles in finance and gaming.
