Karakeep, a library to retrieve the links you’ve just been saving
We've all been there—trying to find that article or reference image we saved to read later, only to realize we don't remember where we put it. As your bookmarks grow, retrieving them becomes harder than saving them.
Karakeep is a data organization tool that brings together links, short notes, images, and PDFs in one place. You can group your content with lists and tags, and search through what you've saved to find things again.

Adding context to your saved materials
When you save a link, it retrieves the title, description, and representative image. You can view saved articles in a dedicated reader mode and highlight important passages. It’s like having a place to both collect your materials and engage with them as you read.
There are also features to auto-tag or summarize content using AI. AI is optional for self-hosted setups and requires configuring an external AI provider or a local model like Ollama.
Choosing your storage capacity and hosting method
You can choose between a managed cloud service or a self-hosted Docker installation. As of the official pricing on November 3rd, the free cloud tier allows for 50 bookmarks and 100MB of storage. The Pro tier is $4 per month and includes AI tagging and full-text search.
The self-hosted version is free, but you are responsible for maintaining your own server and updates. If you choose to connect external AI services, be sure to account for provider costs and the scope of data processing.
It’s a great fit for collections where you want to keep links and images together, such as travel research or design references. Beyond AI categorization, it's worth considering whether the way it helps you retrieve saved material aligns with your personal workflow.
