Bitcoin Breaks $70k — $1.4B Short Squeeze and the Clarity Act

Bitcoin is heating up as it breaks through the $70,000 level. This surge was triggered by macro tailwinds, specifically the U.S. Treasury's expanded bond buyback program. As long-term yields fell and the dollar weakened, a massive short squeeze occurred, liquidating $1.4 billion in short positions within just a few hours and driving the price sharply higher.

Political momentum has added fuel to the fire. A Wall Street Journal report revealed that former President Donald Trump met with crypto industry leaders and urged Congress to expedite the passage of the Clarity Act to establish a regulatory framework. Notably, Trump mentioned that he is working with the CFTC to legally introduce the decentralized futures platform Hyperliquid to the U.S., which sent its native token, HYPE, soaring.

The key question is whether this will move beyond a simple liquidity rally to actual legislative progress on regulatory clarity. With Congressional members like Democrat Ruben Gallego signaling openness to the bill's passage, we should keep a close eye on the procedural vote scheduled for September 15th.
