A welcome feature has been added for those who frequently use the Claude Code terminal environment. This 2.1.302 update introduces new configuration settings that allow for much finer control over your workflow.

The most notable change is the environment variable that lets you directly change the classification model used for Auto Mode decisions. Previously, the client-side auto-classification model was fixed, but now you can specify your preferred model via the CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_MODE_MODEL environment variable.

bash

Additionally, when you enter the /config command in the CLI, you'll notice a new Idle Compaction setting item. If you've been bothered by the context automatically shrinking when work pauses, you can now toggle this off to keep your previous conversation context intact while you work.

If you tend to keep long development sessions running, I recommend typing /config in your terminal to check the Idle Compaction option first.
