On July 10, an incident occurred where approximately 189,000 SOL was unauthorizedly withdrawn from one of Solana's earliest Genesis wallets. The total loss amounts to approximately $14.2 million. Prominent on-chain analysts ZachXBT and Specter Investigation were the first to detect these abnormal fund movements.

The attacker accessed the dormant wallet, unstaked the SOL, and immediately bridged the assets to the Ethereum network. Security analysts believe it is highly likely that the wallet's private key was compromised, rather than there being a vulnerability in the smart contract itself, as the attacker had full control of the wallet and executed seemingly normal transactions.

This incident serves as a clear reminder that even long-term investors who have left their assets untouched for years are not in a 'safe zone.' Even without direct network exploits, targeted attacks exploiting poor private key management or vulnerabilities in old backups can happen at any time. Early participants and holders of large assets should take a critical look at their security measures, such as implementing offline backups and multi-signature setups.
