I'm sure many of you are running long coding sessions with the Cursor agent feature turned on these days. While the main agent is busy analyzing and modifying the entire structure, there are times you just want to ask a quick, simple question like, "Wait, what was the usage for this function again?" Previously, though, you had to either stop the agent loop in progress or deal with cluttering the conversation context.

The latest Cursor 3.11 update introduces a 'Side Chat' feature that solves this problem perfectly. It's incredibly simple to use: just type /side or /btw in the chat box followed by your question, and that's it!

The main agent loop keeps running in the background while your side question is handled in a separate, lightweight session. It leverages the currently open code context without interrupting your main workflow, which makes it surprisingly convenient 😄

It's particularly useful when you're coding and want to quickly ask something that isn't directly related to your current flow, like "Show me the configuration options for this library."
